Joyful, Real and Unposed Wedding Stories

Relaxed and informal Cirencester wedding photography for couples who want
non-performative, documentary photographs alongside some
beautiful portraits

Do you want photographs showing real emotion, which will take you back to how you felt on your wedding day?

Are you nervous about being photographed and looking for someone who will put you and your guests at ease?

I also LOVE epic party photos, so I’ll be on the dance floor, capturing all the antics.

“THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. YOU ARE AMAZING.

So, so grateful”

As a Cirencester wedding photographer, I frequently shoot weddings in and around this gorgeous town. Cirencester, the Cotswolds‘ largest town, is, for many reasons, a fabulous place to get married. Not only does it have an abundance of incredible Gloucestershire wedding venues on the doorstep, it is also incredibly well connected for guests travelling from Oxford, London, Swindon, Bristol, Bath, Warwick or Gloucestershire.

The market town of Cirencester is made up of 5 main areas – the town centre, Stratton, Chesterton, Watermoor and The Beeches, and sits just under the Cotswolds Hills – a picturesque outcrop of oolitic limestone. The River Churn runs nearby, a tributary of the Thames. In the centre of the historic Roman town lies the Grade 1 listed Church of St. John the Baptist, a perfect spot to tie the knot for those seeking a more traditional wedding.

My approach to wedding photography is all about capturing those gorgeous real moments that happen between my clients and their wedding guests, of which there are always an abundance. I’m always looking to capture those little moments that really mean the most – your grandpa shedding a tear as you say your vows, or your dad’s emotion as he sees you in your dress for the first time. My style is unposed and non-performative. The only aspects I support you with posing are for your group photographs, and some stunning portraits of just the two of you.

Most clients looking for a Cirencester wedding photographer want someone who can celebrate the beautiful countryside or stunning Cotswolds architecture that surrounds the town, and my love for texture and nature is the perfect celebration of this.

WHY CHOOSE CIRECENSTER FOR YOUR WEDDING

Cirencester’s location and stunning surrounding countryside are what draw so many couples to get married there.

There are great transport links via the M4 and M5, and the Great Western Railway runs to nearby Kemble.

There is a huge amount of wedding venues within a short distance, so you really are spoilt for choice, whether you’re looking for a classic Barn venue or something a little more elegant.

Cirencester’s registrars are also lovely, keeping your ceremony relaxed and personal whilst incorporating the legalities and traditions of exchanging rings, vows and signing the register.

Within Cirencester, there are multiple hotels, restaurants and parks, including Abbey Park, Cirencester Park, Home Park and St Michael’s Park. There’s even a Roman Amphitheatre on Cotswold Avenue, which is now buried but still a very cool place to visit!

Cirencester Photography

Cirencester is a fabulous place to be a photographer, especially for one who feels deeply inspired by nature. The Cotswolds are a designated National Landscape and consist of rolling hills and farmland, with pretty traditional Cotswolds stone villages scattered amongst them. There is beauty everywhere, and it’s easy to find a fabulous backdrop for photographs.

The nature of the rolling landscape in the Cotswolds means that as long as the sky is reasonably clear, you’re guaranteed a stunning golden hour – perfect for newlywed portraits. I love to backlight my subject with the setting sun and allow the light to create a rim light behind them. This is particularly epic if there’s a bridal veil involved, as it catches this gorgeous light beautifully.

I like to use a mix of lenses, something a little wider like a 35mm or even 24mm to capture the landscape with my subject smaller in the frame, maybe using the rule of thirds or a fence or hedgerow to create leading lines. Then I like to use a longer lens, like my beautiful 85mm, to create separation and bokeh that is incredibly flattering in portraiture.

Aside from getting married, what else is there to do in Cirencester?

Cirencester is a fabulous place for your wedding guests to enjoy a few days’ break away from life and has so much to offer.

Some of the best places to eat include The Orangery at Siddington Park, The Pig in the Cotswolds or Sam and Jak, depending on what you’re looking for.

There are an abundance of gorgeous Cotswolds Pubs if you’re looking to take a leisurely countryside walk and then enjoy a Sunday pub lunch, with the Crown at Ampney Brook being a favourite.

There’s plenty of culture in Cirencester too. Cirencester College hosts the Sundial Theatre and other event spaces include Bingham Hall and the Barn Theatre. Cirencester Park Polo Club is the oldest polo club in the UK. TinkCo, Cirencester Philharmonia Orchestra, Cirencester Male Voice Choir and Cirencester Creative Dance Academy are all based here.

There is also a huge choice of places to stay, depending on your budget, from the Fleece at Cirencester, De Vere Cotswolds Water Park to Stratton House Hotel and Spa.
