Stunning Wedding Photography at Ellenborough Park
Ellenborough Park is one of the most beautiful wedding venues in the Cotswolds — a Regency manor house set in ten acres of grounds just outside Cheltenham. The pace is relaxed and the light is stunning – it’s a beautiful place to tie the knot. I’ve photographed weddings here that have ranged from intimate ceremonies in the orangery to full summer celebrations spilling out across the lawns. This page shares one of those real weddings alongside a bit about what makes Ellenborough Park such a pleasure to photograph — and why my natural, documentary approach tends to work so well here.
Relaxed, natural wedding photography at
Ellenborough Park
There’s something about Ellenborough Park that makes the photography almost easy. The venue has been designed to allow your timeline to flow from one element to another. There are several different spaces including indoor and outdoor bars, a beautiful Stone Gazebo, a spa and rooms such as the the Old Chapel, the De La Bere Suite, The Elizabethan and the Royalist – each hosting a varying number of guests.
The light inside the orangery is perfect for ceremonies. The lawns wrap the house on multiple sides, which means portraits in different directions at different times of the day. In the early evening, the golden hour here is genuinely gorgeous.
What couples should know about getting married at Ellenborough Park
The ceremony spaces at Ellenborough Park offer real flexibility. The orangery is the most popular choice for indoor ceremonies — it’s light-filled, elegant, and intimate without feeling small. For warmer months with good weather, outdoor ceremonies on the terrace or within the walled garden are also possible.
From a photography perspective, the main house faces south-west, which means afternoon and evening light falls beautifully across the front façade and gardens. If your reception runs into the early evening, the golden hour here is one of the best. I’d always recommend being prepared to skip out for portraits at some point if the light is night before sunset. – we won’t need long and the photos will be incredible!
Ellenborough Park is a great venue for unreliable British weather. There are covered areas and indoor spaces that feel just as special as the gardens, so even if the day turns grey, the photography doesn’t suffer. The interior rooms — the bar, the corridors, the dining area— all photograph beautifully – meaning no weather-stress for you.
A September Wedding at Ellenborough Park — Rob and Becky
Rob and Becky’s September wedding at Ellenborough Park was just beautiful. It was one of those sunny but chilly September days, that treats you to epic light, and reminds you that autumn is just around the corner.
Becky got ready in one of the bridal suites upstairs — the kind of room you’d expect from such a grand venue. Four-poster bed, generous window light, enough space for her daughters to be fully involved without anyone feeling crowded.
The ceremony was in the orangery, which in September has beautiful light. Rob and Becky’s ceremony was close, personal, and over far too quickly in the way the best ceremonies always are.
Straight afterwards, we took a few minutes on the lawn just outside of the orangery for confetti. I love confetti shots here because the backdrop is clean and you get this burst of colour against the stone and the sky. Becky laughed, Rob looked like he couldn’t quite believe his luck and the guests were full of joy.
Guests filtered through to the outdoor bar while we explored the building a little. There’s a staircase inside Ellenborough Park that I think about on the drive over every single time I photograph here — a beautiful window at the turn of the stairs throws the flattering light, and it makes for portraits that look like they’ve been lit by a cinematographer rather than an overcast English afternoon. We spent just a couple of minutes there and I came away with some of my favourite frames of the day.
The De La Bere Suite for the wedding breakfast was warm and full by the time speeches came around. The covered outdoor bar with the fire pits had done its job — guests arrived at their seats relaxed and full of cheer. I love how much looser things feel by this point of a wedding day, the formality has dissolved and what’s left is just people who love each other, eating good food and having a ball. Those are the moments i love to capture.
And then golden hour arrived. Guests with full tummies spilt outside, and Rob and Becky came with me for a few portraits on the grounds. The light hitting the house at that hour is genuinely one of the most beautiful things I get to point a camera at in this job.
The sunset and Bekcy and Rob shared their first dance, the DJ played and the dancefloor got busy! I captured some epic dance moved before heading out one last time with Becky and Rob for one last night portrait (a crime not to, when Ellenborough Park is lit up so beautifully at night!).

FAQs for your Ellenborough Park Photographer
Do you photograph weddings at Ellenborough Park regularly?
Yes — it’s one of my favourite Cotswolds venues to work at. I know the light well across different seasons and times of day, and I’m familiar with the spaces that tend to produce the most natural, relaxed moments. That familiarity makes a real difference on the day.
What photography style suits Ellenborough Park?
My natural, documentary approach works particularly well here because the venue encourages people to relax and move freely. The aim is always to capture the day as it actually happened, with as little direction as possible.
When is the best time for portraits at Ellenborough Park?
The hour before sunset is genuinely the most gorgeous time for photos. The light on the stonework and across the gardens at that point is warm and flattering and just sensational! Of course, it is totally weather-dependent, but I’d build it into your day if you can.
Do you offer packages tailored to this venue?
I offer a consistent set of packages across all venues, built around full-day coverage and a relaxed, unhurried approach. I offer full day coverage, micro-wedding packages, and significant discounts for mid-week weddings. I’m always happy to talk through what works best for Ellenborough Park specifically — just get in touch and we can go from there.
