Hyde House Wedding

Gautham and Roshni’s Cotswolds Wedding

I was thrilled when Roshni and Gautham asked me to be their Hyde House wedding photographer. This Cotswolds Victorian House has a multitude of areas and buildings and provids the perfect combination of traditional English country house alongside modern and rustic spaces. It can be hired as a wedding venue or for other events and parties. The Grange is licensed for civil ceremonies and can also be used for blessings.

My informal, unobtrusive style aims to capture the real moments at your wedding, the ones that will still really mean something to you in years to come. Despite a handful of group photographs and a few portraits of the two of you, I want you to be able to forget I’m there for most of your wedding day. Because the more fun you’re having, the better the photographs will be!

“The photos are gorgeous Becky, thank you so much!”

“Despite the wind we managed to get some good portraits too!

It’s going to be tough to pick between them all. They’re all so good, we’re very happy with all the pics and can’t wait for the album now!

PS The ones with Nala all came out so good too”

The Wedding Day

It was a very windy April morning when I arrived at Hyde House. Fortunately, it was a warm welcome as I made my way through the pretty porch and into the hallway of the house. The groomsmen weren’t quite ready for photographs, so I made my way to the upstairs of The Barn where Roshni and her bridesmaid were having their hair and make-up done.

The bride was extremely chilled and enjoying a Bellini on my arrival so I set about taking some details shots of her stunning lehenga, jewellery and shoes (both the heels and the comfy trainers!).

Hyde house has several bedrooms in the main house and coach house and Roshni’s family and friends came and went to wish Roshni good luck as she was getting prepared for her wedding day ahead.

Later in the morning I headed over to the library in the main house to meet groom Gautham and his groomsmen. They fiddled about with buttonholes before we took a handful of group photos. Gautham also wore the traditional Indian wedding outfit which he admitted was very heavy (but worth it – he looked amazing!).

Once the couple were dressed and ready to go, and after they’d spoke with their celebrant and registrar, we made our way down to the Grange for the official knot-tying! The Grange is a rustic, wooden barn building with farmhouse-style doors, oak beams, large bay windows and lots of gorgeous natural light. In fact, as Roshni met Gautham at the alter the light flooded in from the bay window behind me, hitting my subject and creating a nice fall off behind them, it’s the stuff photographer’s dream of!

Rings were exchanged, vows were made, and the couple were official pronounced husband and wife. Once they’d been cheered down the aisle by happy wedding guests, they made their way into the refuge of the main house for a glass of celebratory champagne whilst videographer Andy and I lined up guests outside for the confetti toss! The wind was still blowing a hooley, so we had to put more people on one side to prevent the confetti being blown away too quickly! A fast shutter speed was going to be essential!

After confetti was thrown, the newly-weds were showered with congratulatory hugs and well wishes from wedding guests. The wind was chilly though, so we all headed swiftly to the Barn where guests were greeted with a cosy bar, canapes, fizz, and wonderful views over the gardens and Cotswolds countryside beyond.

We were fortunate to be able to use the oak beamed porchway to frame the bride and groom and their guests for group photographs. There were so many pops of beautiful, rich colours as many of the women wedding guests wore gorgeous traditional sarees.

Before dinner was served, the newly-weds and I headed out for some portraits away from guests. Roshni and Gautham were excited to see their lovely 9-month-old Labrador Nala who was being well looked after by their dog-walker. The couple lit up when they saw Nala, who wore flowers around her collar, especially for the occasion (half of which, had been eaten!).

Being a chilly blustery day, after a few photographs outside with Nala, we headed into the shelter of the Grange for some portraits. Soft light came in through the window with a lovely fall off being my subjects. We were able to use the window light to play about with different angles and get some beautiful moments between the new Mr and Mrs.  We used backlight to create some silhouettes of Gautham spinning his wife in the big bay window and side light for a flattering affect across the couple.

Guests were seated for the wedding breakfast on our return to The Barn and the Master of Ceremonies announced the newly-weds while guests stood to clap and cheer their entry.

After dinner, toasting drinks were served and the two best men, groom and bride’s brother delivered their speeches. Roshni was particularly emotional during her brother’s speech, it was touching.

Before the evening party started, the bride and groom snuck upstairs for a quick outfit change. Roshni wore a fabulous ivory two-piece trouser set and Gautham looked dapper in a tuxedo. Outside the sun set over the Cotswolds hills and has the wind had finally subsided a handful of guests braved the outside for a wonder around the gardens.

The Master of Ceremonies once again announced the arrival of Roshni and Gautham before cake cutting and the first dance ensued. Guests hit the dancefloor to party whilst the DJ played out.

Before it was time for me to leave, we wrangled a few guests outside for a sparkler exit beside the arbour and a night portrait of Roshni and Gautham using an off-camera flash. The arbour ceiling was white, enabling me to fire a flash upwards behind the couple to bounce light off the ceiling, lighting the subjects from above.

On the way back across the lawn to the venue, poor Roshni got her heel stuck in the soft, spring turf, fortunately, her new husband was on hand to carry her back to the dancefloor where the party continued!

The Venue

Built from Cotswolds stone with a traditional oak-frame porch, the Barn a fantastic space for wedding receptions. It has high faulted ceilings, double heigh windows flooding the rooms with light, a stylish copper-topped bar with leather furnishings and on warmer days doors open onto the terrace and gardens behind.

On warm days, you can even get married outside under the Arbour, though with the unpredictability of the great British weather, it’s nice to have an alternative, indoor option!
