Bronwen and Courtney’s Barn at Brynich Wedding

I was thrilled when Bronwen and Courtney asked me to be their Barn at Brynich wedding photographer. I grew up in West Wales, and with family living on the Welsh border we were forever driving up through mid-Wales, via Brecon and the Brecon Beacons, so I was thrilled to be back in the stunning area for this very special day. Now that I live nearby, it’s one of my all-time favourite venues. Those views – wow!

The vibe was relaxed, informal and the hope was that good weather would allow guests to enjoy drinks and canapes on the lawns, play games and enjoy the stunning views over the mountain range behind. The weather was, as is so often the case in late May, perfect, and you’ll see from the photographs how much guests enjoyed milling about outside the stunning Welsh wedding venue, between formalities.

The Client’s said…

“Becky was the most amazing presence on our wedding day! I genuinely can’t recommend her enough if you’re considering booking her. Her work is just phenomenal and we haven’t stopped crying at how beautiful our photos are. She was calm, perfectly organised and her communication pre and post wedding was the best. Her energy while I was getting ready was exactly what I needed and she made me feel so beautiful with the photos.

I would also absolutely recommend having an engagement or a pre wedding shoot with Becky. We had one and when our wedding day arrived it was like seeing an old friend – Becky had taken away all of the nerves by coaching us during the pre wedding shoot and we felt so comfortable having our photos taken during our wedding.

Thank you for capturing our day so perfectly, Becky! ❤️”

A Spring Welsh Wedding

When I arrived both the bride and groom were getting ready. B with her bridesmaids in one of the larger cottages, and C with his groomsmen, in one of the smaller cottages. Their dog, Narla was fast asleep and oblivious to all the excitement.

Once B had put her on stunning lace bridal gown and intricate lace veil, she revealed her outfit to her parents and bridesmaids who burst into happy tears at the sight of such a beautiful bride. The groomsmen were by now, greeting guests and ushering them into seats in the barn. The groom stood nervously chatting to registrars as the wedding coordinator assisted the bridal party through the courtyard, ahead of their walk down the aisle.

Courtney couldn’t contain his emotion as he saw his stunning wife-to-be being walked down the aisle with both the mother and father-of-the-bride. Everyone was in tears as the couple were reunited and there wasn’t a dry eye in the barn as the vows were being made and rings exchanged. The couple shared their first kiss after they were pronounced husband and wife and exited back down the aisle once the marriage certificate had been signed.

Guests gathered out in the courtyard and were handed confetti which they joyfully threw over the newly-weds before being guided towards the outdoors drinks reception.

There was time for hugs and congratulations, lawn games and canapes before we captured a handful of family photographs with the Brecon Beacons behind.

As guests were seated for the wedding breakfast back in the barn, the bride, groom and I, and their little dog Narla, took a stroll around the venue’s grounds for some stunning portraits of the three of them. I used a wide lens to capture the stunning background behind and make the most of the magnificent Welsh scenery.

After the three-course wedding breakfast had been served, an emotional set of speeches were delivered by the groom, best man and bride’s parents. Before long, guests were spilling back outside to enjoy the cooler evening air. The venue staff had lit firepits and there were marshmallows to roast and s’mores to assemble, as evening guests arrived too.

The sun was setting in a clear sky, which meant we were able to make the most of some stunning golden hour light for a few more portraits. I used an 85mm lens to create some stunning sun flare and used the sun behind the couple to create rim light behind them.

As the evening continued, guests were ushered back indoors for the cutting of the cake. A three-tiered ensemble, guests cheered and clapped as the couple cut into it. Then watched as the newly-weds took their first dance. I always use off camera flash to create drama and rim light in dancing photos and barns are perfect for this, as the dark walls mean that all but the subject is in shadow.

After the band’s first set had finished, it was time for me to depart.

I absolutely love photographing weddings at the Barn at Brynich. It is a stunning venue which epitomises everything I love about weddings – a rustic, informal vibe and stunning nature.

A Stunning Mid-Wales Wedding Venue

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Bannau Bycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), The Barn at Brynich offers couples a gorgeous, rustic venue perfect for their Welsh mountainside wedding. This beautifully restored 18th-century farm is truly charming, with historic stone walls and contemporary touches to create a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Surrounded by stunning Welsh countryside, the venue provides breathtaking views of the Bannau Brycheiniog, which is sure to wow your guests.

The venue has been family owned and run since the 1960s, starting life as a family farm and evolving into the beautiful wedding venue it is today.  Mark and Cath are the brother and sister duo who still own and run the venue and on-site self-catering cottages. The venue is licensed for civil ceremonies, with both indoor and outdoor options available. The barn’s spacious interior can accommodate up to 120 guests for a seated meal and transforms into a cosy space for evening celebrations for up to 150 guests. Couples can also make use of the courtyard and gardens, a perfect backdrop for wedding photos with guests, lawn games and by evening time, s’mores upon the fire. The wedding coordinators Bec and Katie have many years’ experience and are on hand to support couples right through from the initial planning to full execution of the wedding day.

In addition to its event space, The Barn at Brynich features on-site self-catering accommodation for you and your guests. The beautifully converted cottages provide useful on-site accommodation for a little rest after the dancing has finished. Perfect for weekend-long celebrations for a relaxed, informal vibe. Being only a short drive from Brecon, the venue is easily accessible to nearby facilities. For those who love the countryside, the Bannau Brycheiniog offers a plethora of outdoor activities.
