Caer Llan Wedding

A South Wales Wedding Venue

It was incredibly special to be asked to be R&N’s Caer Llan wedding photographer. I’m not even sure where to start with how amazing Caer Llan is. It has everything you could want from a venue – gorgeous gardens, amazing views, incredible sunsets, a pool, on-site rooms, great staff, and a warm, welcoming vibe.

Caer Llan has to be one of my all-time favourite South-Wales wedding venues and I’m always happy to be invited back to shoot weddings there.

My documentary style of photography is relaxed and informal but I also love to create beautiful portraits of my clients. I’m always inspired by nature and good light and Caer Llan offers both in abundance.

If you’re getting married at Caer Llan and are still looking for a wedding photographer I would absolutely love to chat to you about your plans.

The Wedding Day Story

The groom and groomsmen got ready in the Berm House, an onsite accommodation building for up to 50 guests. Meanwhile the bride and her bridesmaids had hair and make-up done in the bridal suite upstairs in the main building. The bridal suite benefits from a large balcony and boasts amazing views over the garden and south-facing views.

One of my favourite moments of the morning was capturing the father of the bride seeing his daughter in her dress for the first time, the bride was overcome with emotion and it was an incredibly special moment.

The couple chose to tie the knot outside under the gazebo with those wonderful views as a backdrop. With wedding vows made, and wedding register signed, the ceremony ended with guests showering the newly-weds in confetti – always one of my favourite moments of a wedding day!

Guests enjoyed canapes and lawn games alongside the stunning views whilst the bride, groom and I snuck away for a short round of portraits in the beautiful Caer Llan gardens.

The landscaped gardens are tiered and boast a variety of backdrops including a swimming pool, pretty greenhouse, stone walls, woodland, a plethora of plants and foliage and of course, those epic views. I knew we’d get an amazing sunset later, so after a short while I told the couple to go enjoy their time with their guests, knowing we’d get some epic portraits during golden hour.

After the wedding breakfast and speeches, guests headed back outside to enjoy the scenery whilst the Caer Llan staff turned the room around for the evening. As the sun dipped in the sky the golden light was just incredible, so we headed out for a stroll around the gardens and captured some awesome golden hour portraits with the sun setting behind.

Once the sun had set and the cake had been cut, the band started up and the newly-weds hit the dance floor for their first dance. They were quickly joined by all their guests and the party got well under way!

The Wedding Venue

Caer Llan is an incredibly special venue. It’s difficult to do justice but think about 25 acres of secluded hillside garden with endless views over the beautiful Welsh countryside. It’s south facing and therefore gets sun all day culminating in the most dreamy of sunsets – perfect for those golden hour portraits!

Caer Llan is a family-run wedding venue with a really welcoming feel. It’s always great when guests can stay on-site and who doesn’t love an outdoor swimming pool!? Being surrounded by woodland makes it feel very private but truthfully, there are amazing transport links as it’s an hour to Bristol and Cardiff and just 5 minutes into the local town of Monmouth. It’s one of those wedding venues that really keeps guests happy with lots to do in the local area, interesting, well-kept gardens to enjoy, a cosy bar with reasonable prices and of course those breath-taking views.

I absolutely love shooting weddings at Caer Llan, it’s a beautiful place with a relaxed, informal atmosphere which totally suits my style of photography. I’ve yet to meet Vicky but owner Jake is the nicest guy who’s down to earth, hardworking, and just wants his clients to have an awesome day!
