Priston Mill Wedding
A Bath Wedding Venue
There’s a saying that goes “always the bridesmaid but never the bride”, well when it came to Priston Mill, for me, it was a case of “always the bridesmaid and never the photographer”, so I was absolutely thrilled when Jess and Tom asked me to be their Priston Mill wedding photographer when I met them last year!
Priston Mill is a gorgeous venue. Think rustic chic with a beautifully landscaped garden. I absolutely love all the stone walls, exposed beams and big windows letting in lots of natural light.
Of course there’s the choice of the Tythe Barn and Watermill at Priston Mill, and although two weddings can go ahead on the same day, you’d never know it as both venues feel completely separate.
Though it rained a lot on Jess and Tom’s wedding day, we were fortunate to have 15 minutes where the rain stopped and we headed for a quick portrait session outside. I’m always amazed at the variety of photos I can get in such a short space of time. It’s why I always tell my clients we don’t need to spend ages doing their portrait photos, I prefer them to relax and enjoy their wedding day (as the cliché goes, it’ll go so fast!).
If you’re getting married at Priston Mill I would love to hear from you. Priston really suits my style and approach; informal, relaxed but beautiful all the same.

The Wedding Day Story
The bride and groom had hired a local farm with multiple wedding cottages for their wedding weekend and so I arrived in the morning to a hub of activity as everyone was getting ready. Jess is probably one of the warmest people I have ever met, her smile lights up the room and it was a pleasure to photograph her and the bridesmaids prepare for the day ahead. The make-up artist and hair dresser did a gorgeous job and being autumn, Jess had to go with red lippy, which looked ace!
After donning her wedding dress and sharing an emotional moment with her bridesmaids the girls headed over to Priston Mill in a gorgeous blue VW camper.
On their arrival the girls were greeted by numerous Priston Mill staff who assisted them out into the rain and sheltered them with umbrellas.
I captured a couple of photos of a rather nervous looking Tom whilst Jess spoke with the registrar, and it wasn’t long before the wedding ceremony was under way. Despite a slightly hairy moment when it looked like the bride’s ring might not fit, everything went to plan and it wasn’t long before this gorgeous bride and groom were pronounced husband and wife!
After the register was signed by the newly-weds and their witnesses it was time to throw confetti! With rain still pouring outside we opted for a confetti toss as the couple walked back down the aisle and it was just gorgeous!
One of my favourite parts of the wedding day is just after the ceremony when friends and family excitedly hug and congratulate the new Mr and Mrs. I love these moments as they are so happy and bursting with love.
I noticed the rain had eased at some point during the drinks reception, so we left the happy guests to their canapes and drinks and snuck outside for some portraits, including one or two with the VW Camper.
After the wedding breakfast had been served it was time for speeches and one of Jess’ lovely bridesmaids gave a speech as well as the traditional three. She had Jess and the other guests in absolute stiches (I secretly LOVE it when women give speeches at weddings – girl power and all that!).
Later in the evening after the cake was cut and the newly-weds had their first dance, Jess, Tom and their wedding guests hit the dance floor at it was epic! I’m crazy about photographing the dancefloor, it’s such a challenge as a photographer as it’s so fast paced and usually in very low light, but using on and off-camera flash and getting stuck in can and will deliver some awesome shots!

The Wedding Venue
Priston Mill is an 10th Century watermill in the pretty, unassuming village of Priston, just outside of Bath. Alongside the Mill is the Tythe Barn which also hosts weddings. Both venues are grade II listed, are steeped in history and have been beautifully restored to create gorgeous wedding venues.
The Watermill boasts three floors with limewashed walls, exposed timbers, and numerous pretty turquoise window frames with grey slate sills. On sunny days, guests can spill out onto the wooden terrace and enjoy the gardens and millpond. There are cosy seating areas for guests to relax and of course a pretty stream and the huge iron waterwheel!
The Tythe Barn can accommodate slightly larger weddings but isn’t dissimilar in décor. It has exposed stone walls and a mezzanine floor with comfy sofas, allowing guests a spot to rest their weary feet after all that dancing! With it’s 15-metre-high vaulted roof this wonderful space feels vast. Alongside the main barn sits a cosier Parlour with further seating, a cast-iron stove, and hundreds of atmospheric fairy lights.
I absolutely love shooting weddings at Priston Mill, this wonderful venue really suits my style of photography and if you’re getting married at Priston, I would love to hear your plans
