A Wedding at Bristol’s

Mud Dock Café

I was super excited when Steph and Jack asked me to be their Mud Dock wedding photographer.

I could immediately tell that this wedding was going to be informal, a little quirky and a whole lot of fun!

This wedding was so full of colour, and Jack and Steph were such a lot of fun. They laughed their heads off as they walked down the aisle together, setting the tone for what was brilliant day.

Here’s a few of my favourite stills.

The Clients Said…

The Wedding

I arrived on Bristol’s busy Corn Street and took a few photographs of the bustling street with the Register office behind. Bristol Register office performs multiple weddings every hour and it’s always exciting trying to find the correct wedding party, none of whom I have ever met before!

Steph and Jack’s wedding took place in the Grand Council Chamber which was starting to fill up with guests on my arrival.

The couple had opted for a short but sweet ceremony and walked down the aisle together, laughing joyfully throughout their vows. Once the rings had been exchanged, the signing of the register complete and the marriage legalities all tied up, the newly-weds shared their first kiss as husband and wife and their wedding guests cheered and clapped loudly.

Outside the register office there is a large wide set of steps leading out onto Corn Street below. As guests exited the building and began to line up for confetti, the heavens opened and heavy rain fell. Guests armed themselves with umbrellas and hid under market stalls until the short shower was over. Then, everyone gathered around the bride and groom to shower them in confetti, welcoming them into married life.

Jack, Steph and I headed down through St Nicholas Market where we had planned a handful of portraits, unfortunately the rain had restarted, and their daughter needed some cuddles with Mum and Dad, so we parked that idea and I just caught some gorgeous candid photographs of the three of them walking hand in hand through Bristol’s streets.

The guests had already arrived at Welsh Back and were busy boarding a passenger boat for a fun alternative drink’s reception. There were nibbles and champagne on offer and some gorgeous views over the river Avon.

The boat took the wedding guests on a city dock tour, past some of Bristol’s most iconic places including the SS Great Britain, Whapping Wharf, the M Shed and Bristol’s floating Harbour. The tour ended in Hotwells, with one final look at the Clifton Suspension bridge before returning its passengers back to the Mud Dock café.

The Mud dock itself is the coolest city centre venue. It’s cycleworks downstairs is one of Bristol’s most iconic shops. Upstairs has a large open café, which can be used as an event space, and features a big outdoor terrace with incredible views over Bristol Harbour.

The wedding venue had been decorated beautifully with bright colourful bunting and lanterns, hot pink napkins and wedding favours, and a brightly coloured choux bun tower to top it all off.

The wedding breakfast was served to guests and shortly afterwards the best man, groom and best women delivered their speeches. The mother of the bride even got up to say a few words, mostly words of warning to her new son-in-law!

As the sun began to lower in the sky, Steph, Jack and I decided to head out for a few portraits. Golden hour had arrived and there was beautiful soft light hitting Bristol’s beautiful streets. I used the setting sun to back-light the couple, creating stunning flare with a shallow depth of field.  After a few portraits outside the venue, we headed over to Queen’s Square, where the newly-weds literally skipped through the park while I took their photographs.

A bridesmaid’s partner was a DJ and when we got back to the venue it wasn’t long before he was playing the music for the first dance. Wedding guests and the bride and groom hit the dancefloor and the party began.
