Deer Park Wedding

Claire and Stephen’s Somerset Wedding

I was absolutely thrilled when Claire and Stephen asked me to be their Deer Park wedding photographer because it meant an opportunity to shoot at a new venue for me.

When you excitedly drive up the long winding drive towards the house, you can’t help but be blown away when the building comes into view. This beautiful country house is set in 80 acres of parkland, which includes a walled garden from which produce is grown and harvested to feel your wedding guests. With an exquisitely landscaped Italian garden, a beautiful orangery and even a luxury tree house for your wedding night, there’s so much about this place to love.

You can’t fail to be impressed when you step inside either, every inch of the house has been carefully styled to create a decadent but homely feel. There are large windows throughout, allowing for gorgeous natural light to stream through into the large rooms and fireplaces aplenty create a cosy feel in winter. Everywhere you turn there is so much attention to detail which makes the whole place feel lovingly cared for. Some of my favourite rooms are featured below.

The Clients Said…

Becky was incredible! We were so lucky to find her.

Communication before the event was reassuringly regular and organised, she was discreet and helpful on the day and it was a pleasure to have her there.

The finished result couldn’t have been better and we would highly recommend her.

Thank you Becky x!

The Wedding Day

The Preparations
I met Claire and her entourage at the onsite Playhouse which, like the main house has been lovingly decorated. Claire looked utterly radiant and when I arrived, she was busy having the finishing touches done by hair and make-up artist Laura Elisabeth.

Stephen, Claire and her parents own a collection of amazing vintage cars, and despite being only a short walk, Claire wanted her lovely dad Richard to drive her from the playhouse to the main house in his gorgeous car. I absolutely love the moment Claire’s parents are helping her out of the car and they end up in a fit of giggles because (as anyone who’s done it will know) getting out of a very low car in a wedding dress is not always as dignified as you imagine!

The Ceremony
The ceremony itself was made up of two parts, following the formal marriage which was conducted by the registrar, Claire and Stephen invited their friend and local canon to conduct a more religious blessing. It was all incredibly moving, both Claire and Stephen ended up in tears on multiple occasions. It’s always my favourite part of my job witnessing such a special couple tying the knot, and this was no exception.

Once the ceremony was over, we all headed outside to congratulate the new Mr and Mrs by showering them in brightly coloured confetti.

The Details
I have to mention the botanical theme of this wedding which perfectly suited the botanical décor in the main reception room at Deer Park.

Claire’s Mum, Jenny, had handmade the bridal party’s ties, bowties, bridesmaid dresses and waistcoats in a gorgeous vintage-looking botanical fabric.

There was matching botanical print on the order of service, place cards and table plan as well as beautiful spring flowers by In Bloom Devon as centrepieces.

The pièce de résistance was the incredible wedding cake which had been handcrafted by a friend and had exquisite, intricate detail as well as being absolutely enormous!

The Reception
Once everyone had been well fed a delicious feast by the team at Deer Park, it was time for the speeches. Claire’s Dad went first but being a little vertically challenged he saw it fit to stand up on his chair to conduct his speech, a moment which really made everyone chuckle.

Possibly the most moving moment of this wedding was when Stephen’s son and best man Merlin simply couldn’t hold it together during his speech. His love for his Dad was palpable, and bless him, he struggled on through telling everyone what a wonderful man his father is. It was a gorgeous moment.

Once the evening guests had arrived it was time to hit the dance floor. The band were a collection of Claire and Stephen’s friends too and were awesome. I absolutely love it when brides let loose on the dance floor and Claire didn’t disappoint!

The Venue

The best thing about this wonderful venue is just how awesome the staff are. I was lucky enough to be able to work alongside wedding co-ordinator Sophie and assistant manager Mark who not only worked their socks off but were amazing at communicating with myself and other suppliers to ensure a smooth running of the day. Aside from this, every single member of staff was friendly, helpful and just couldn’t do enough for Claire, Stephen and their guests. It’s for this reason that this venue has to be one of my all-time favourites.
