Luke and Corina’s Wedding at Canonteign Falls

Corina and Luke are hands down, one of the sweetest couples I have ever met. They had been together over a decade when they booked me to be their Canonteign Falls wedding photographer for their July wedding last year. Their wedding was the definition of relaxed and informal. They didn’t want a big fuss at all, just a day of celebrating with all their family and friends. When I met up with these guys for their pre-wed shoot just few weeks before they were uber chilled about their upcoming wedding.

Canonteign Falls itself is an awesome venue if you’re looking for a relaxed outdoor spot to get married in Devon. This wonderful wedding venue is tucked away in pretty Dartmoor countryside and is the perfect spot if you’re looking for a venue with lots of scenery but none of the fuss. It has the highest manmade waterfall in the UK, gorgeous lakes, private parkland and ancient woodland.

I’ve shot a couple of weddings here now and Lianne, the event coordinator is just wonderful. She is super chilled out and a fabulous person to work alongside. Canonteign Falls only holds about 20 weddings a year which means you really do have their undivided attention when it comes to your big day.

You can also stay on site at the delightful Canonteign Cottage too, check it out here.

The Ceremony
At Canonteign Falls you can either get married under the pagoda which looks out across the lake, or in the purpose-built event barn, pictured below. Luke and Corina chose to get married under the pagoda as the weather was beautiful. Corina was given away by her lovely godmother and the look on Luke’s face when he saw his beautiful bride was something that would bring a tear to anyone’s eye.

After the ceremony the guests lined up along one of the lakeside footpaths to throw confetti over the newly-weds. Luke’s Mum had been drying petals for what must have been weeks on end – I’ve never seen so much confetti! I always say to my clients, the more confetti you can get the better – and I wasn’t disappointed at Luke and Corina’s wedding! If you’d like some tips about maximising your confetti moment, check out my blog here.

After capturing some candid moments of guests having fun during the drinks reception, Luke, Corina and I snuck off for a walk around the lake to capture some beautiful portraits among the Dartmoor greenery.

The Reception
The reception also took place at Canonteign falls, in their purpose built events barn which overlooks the lake. With bunting, fairy lights and wild flower centrepieces these guys had created a really cool festival vibe. The dinosaur table plan had a nod to their love of all things jurassic. Both Luke and Corina made a speech, which were particularly moving, particularly the tributes made to Corina’s late mum. I also loved how Corina had a pendant with a photograph of her mum on her bouquet, which was so meaningful.

Since the weather was nice, the guests spent lots of time outside having a drink, catching up and eating an ice cream or two from the ice-cream van! They were accompanied by a couple of Luke and Corina’s friends playing some folk music under an old oak tree, it made for such a wonderfully chilled atmosphere.

The Party
After cutting the cake it wasn’t long before Corina, Luke and quite literally ALL their guests hit the dance floor. The reason everyone got up on the dance floor was because the band they’d booked, La Juega, was quite simply EPIC! This very cool five piece band play a mix of cumbia and rumba music and are quite possibly my all time favourite band I’ve seen at a wedding. If you’re looking for some cool music which is sure to get everyone up dancing, definitely go check these guys out!
