A Winkworth Farm Wedding
Malmesbury, Wiltshire
I was absolutely thrilled when Shane and Shannon asked me to be their Winkworth Farm wedding photographer. This stunning barn wedding venue has been lovingly transformed into one of the most beautiful wedding venues. It has an abundance of indoor and outdoor space, and a variety of options for ceremonies.
Shannon and Shane wanted a really informal day with all their loved ones and they really wanted it to be FUN! They wanted their photographs to reflect this and didn’t want to spend all day posing in front of the camera. They were keen for me to capture their guests enjoying the day, eating ice cream and donuts, and letting their hair down on the dance floor!
The Clients Said…
“Where to start! We honestly can’t thank Becky enough for so many things. Choosing your wedding photographer is so much more than just the photos you have at the end of it all, and Becky does everything else so well too.
She made us both, and our guests, so at ease and comfortable and blended in perfectly – you wouldn’t have known she was there! From the small things like helping Shannon put her necklace on and helping her relax with everything else going on on the wedding morning, to the beautiful, special and some hilarious moments she captured too. We’re both pretty awkward when it comes to having our photo taken, so looked for a documentary style photographer, but Becky goes beyond that – never have either of us felt less awkward in front of the camera, we’d even say we enjoyed it! Her warm and friendly personality made her feel more like a close friend and it shows in the photos.
Looking back on the photos she captured during the day have brought back so many true memories, and those moments were captured perfectly.
We couldn’t recommend Becky enough, she really did make our day extra special. Thank you so much again, you’re amazing and we love you!!”

The Wedding Day
I arrived with Shannon and her bridal party a couple of hours ahead of the ceremony. The boys arrived soon after and were busy putting finishing touches to decorations in the Threshing Barn. Shannon had her hair and make-up done alongside two of her bridesmaids and enjoyed sipping on fizz before getting into her bridal down.
Shannon’s bridesmaid and Mum helped her into her stunningly elegant wedding dress. The bride had been worried that her dress was too simple, but sometimes simplicity is all you need, and she looked absolutely unreal!
As Shannon came downstairs in her wedding dress and veil, she was greeted with her bridesmaids and man-of-honour and there was a few happy tears at the sight of the bride!
The father of the bride was brought in ahead of the registrars, and the two shared an emotional moment before the pre-wedding interview was held.
Meanwhile, outside, guests were ushered into the Sunken Garden where the ceremony was to take place.
The newly-weds were married in the Cotswold Stone Roundhouse and Shane’s face as he saw his wife-to-be walking down the aisle said everything.
The wedding ceremony itself was simple and romantic, with rings being exchanged, vows being pledged and the signing of the register. The couple were soon pronounced husband and wife and led their guests out of the sunken garden to complete their ceremony.
I lined guests up outside while the newly-weds shared a moment alone. Then the couple were welcomed into married life in a shower of confetti from their loved ones. Reception drinks were served from the outside bar, and the party got into full swing!
I let the couple relax and enjoy time with their friends and family for a while before we headed over to the gardens with their nearest and dearest for some group photographs. Once we’d taken some formal family photos and some more fun photos with their bridal party, the bride, groom and I took a walk around the venue to capture some photos of just the two of them.
Lots of my clients worry about having their photos taken, but I always get them to reframe their portrait session as a little time to catch up with one another, rather than a full-on, staged shoot! Usually, I just ask my clients to take a little walk, have a catch up and enjoy the peace for a few minutes. I will prompt client’s if necessary, but it’s surprising how often this isn’t needed.
It was time for the wedding breakfast afterwards, and the guests were seated to eat before the new Mr and Mrs were announced in. Speeches were delivered after the food had been eaten, including a speech from the man-of-honour, Shannon’s brother.
Shannon and Shane didn’t want to do a traditional cake-cut and so opted for sharing a donut instead, which, of course, their guests thought was brilliant and made for a fabulous photo!
The DJ had already set up, and called the couple forward for their first dance, after which the wedding guests joined in for a boogie It was a beautiful summer’s evening as the sky cleared and guests enjoyed the music, ice cream and the selection of games that were on offer.
Just before the sun set, the bride, groom and I popped out the back of the venue for a quick dance in the field during golden hour to capture some beautiful portraits before the sun disappeared.
The Gorgeous Wedding Venue
Winkworth Farm is a family owned wedding venue in Wiltshire, near the town of Malmesbury and on the outskirts of the Cotswolds. The main barn was built in the 17th century in Cotswolds stone and has been lovingly restored. Winkworth Farm is an organic farm with beautifully landscaped gardens and an eco-friendly status. There are numerous locations to hold ceremonies including the main Threshing Barn, the Long Barn and the Sunken Garden. It is fully licensed for wedding ceremonies. There is also a nearby church for those wanting a more religious wedding ceremony.
There are numerous spaces, including a large bar area, making the switch between daytime reception and evening party seamless and effortless. The venue itself doesn’t offer catering, but can recommend some local, trusted caterers to provide your wedding breakfast and evening buffet.
There is also accommodation on-site for up to fifteen guests in the Farmhouse, the Grove and the Courtyard barn. There is also a glamping option for guests during summer months.
Winkworth farm has been thoughtfully converted into a wedding venue which meets all your needs. It is a beautiful backdrop to your wedding day and one of my favourite wedding venues.
