Dartmoor Wedding Photographer
Dan and Amy’s Just Us Shoot at Postbridge, Dartmoor
A pre-wed shoot is always great chance to get some practice being in front of the camera, away from the pressures and time restraints of your big day. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know each other. As a Dartmoor wedding photographer I absolutely love going somewhere a little wild and wonderful, an opportunity to get to you and gain an understanding about what it is about you and your wedding that’s so unique and special.
When Dan and Amy met up on Dartmoor last summer there was about 6 weeks to go until their wedding, neither of them had ever had professional photographs before but Amy told me how important their wedding photographs were to them, as a keep safe for their precious wedding memories.
Postbridge is a gorgeous little spot up on Dartmoor. It’s pretty rugged and I imagine on a cold, wintry day it’s a bit bleak. But on this occasion, we were blessed with gorgeous, summer evening light and it was my idea of heaven.
Having never been to Postbridge before I arrived early to check out where we might be able to get some nice light and a good backdrop. The light looked pretty promising and as the sun dipped, I started feeling hopeful we’d catch a bit of gorgeous light during golden hour.
When Amy and Dan arrived, we took a little walk along a track through some farmland with some pretty rustic walls and ancient trees. As it sometimes does, the wind blew in a blanket of cloud and despite a nice forecast it seemed we were going to miss out on golden hour. We were chatting through some last-minute wedding details before saying goodbye when suddenly the sun burst through the clouds. We happily legged it up the moor to capture some beautiful portraits with Amy and Dan being bathed in golden light.
I know this lovely couple were pleased they’d had a pre-wed shoot and were thankful for the practice run they had in front of the camera. The opportunity to get feeling comfortable being photographed before the big day meant they were so much more relaxed at their Cornish wedding later on in the summer.
I think poor Dan’s most memorable moment was being bitten by a crazy number of midges while Amy and me (who were seemingly uninteresting to the midges) looked on and laughed – sorry Dan!
